Sara arrives

I finished out a great week of being at the rescue most mornings and loved every minute of it. I am inspired to get my own bike out of the garage when I get home. I have gotten stronger by the day here and it feels good. Sara arrived Friday morning so I made the short walk to the train station to meet her and spare her the death wish route Google took me on to the apartment. After settling we went to say hi to Katie and just had a relaxing evening in catching up on farm and rescue news.

Saturday I did my morning shift to allow Sara some rest then we headed back to the rescue for an afternoon of “pi-cat-so.” Those of you on social media may have seen a video of cats creating artwork, which gave us the idea. We ordered blank canvases, non-toxic paint and plastic wrap. Sara cut all our catnip, bringing a bale of it through customs! Basically it’s blobs of paint on the canvas, cover with plastic, place catnip on top and let the cats do the rest! Another volunteer and her daughter were there and we had a lot of fun and laughs. Sunday, Sara and I spent the day in Saltaire, which I had seen but not explored. It is a very interesting place and I added to my ever growing stash of “beautiful cards you can’t find at home any more.” Monday, we decided to take a two hour train ride through the Yorkshire Dales. We arrived at a lonely unmanned train station in the middle of nowhere and walked the mile and a half to the town center. While it was a quaint town, one could see the probable effects of covid with many shuttered doors. We found a heavily patronized cafe and had a nice lunch. I decided we could catch an earlier train than planned so we struck off in the light rain back to the station. Highlights for me were seeing/hearing a nesting Lapwing, seeing tons of hares (they are so much larger than our rabbits) and just seeing the scenery. It is nothing short of breathtaking and for a nature and land lover like myself, it doesn’t get any better. I am glad we made the trip, albeit not everyone’s cup of tea. In all honesty, if I lived in England a town like Kirkby Steven is most likely where I would be found. Maybe a tad closer to a larger city.

It’s Tuesday morning and we are heading to the rescue soon. Enjoy some photos below.

  3. Great stuff! I love to hear that you’re SO enjoying your morning at the shelters–it must give you an amazing feeling and sense of satisfaction. That “pi-cat-so” painting idea is something I’d like to experiment with (minus the plastic) if I can get my better half to join me….!

    HI SARA!
