The dreaded end has come but what a time we have had! I will do a more fitting final post but wanted to share all the things we did this week.

Tuesday morning we went to the rescue. I cleaned Kitty Cottage and Sara put two new rabbit hutches together. Afterwards, volunteer Carol, Katie, Flora, Sara and I had a stellar fish and chips lunch.

Wednesday Sara and I spent the day in York, a really lively and lovely city we both enjoyed. Lots of streets of shops and activities. Beautiful scenery too.

Thursday we went to Leeds, a much larger city with a big market and lots of shops. I was doing really well not buying things until York and Leeds. My bags are now just as heavy as they were coming over.

Friday morning I did an unplanned final shift at the rescue and then Sara and I took the train to Hebdon Bridge. When you imagine the quintessential picturesque English village it looks a lot like Hebdon Bridge. An artistic town, it had a beautiful city centre with shops and a small market. It was a perfect way to end our week of exploring.

Friday evening we hosted volunteer Jennie, Katie and Flora for dinner at our apartment. Sara actually brought some of our beef over so we made good old burgers with all the fixings. We sat around the table laughing and sharing stories just like home. It was a grand evening and fitting way to end our last full day of the trip.

It is Saturday evening and we are now in Manchester. After one last pub meal we are resting up for a long day of travel tomorrow. I am looking forward to being home and seeing our own 4 legged family but of course it’s bittersweet. I may even be looking forward to the 30 degree increase in temperature! I do love summer.

Below are pictures from the last few days.

  2. Hurry home but be safe.  We’ll have to meet for lunch after you’re over jet lag and back to your normal routines, so I can hear even more wonderful stories about the British babies you fell in love with.
