Well, I have been volunteering at the rescue each morning since Tuesday, so 3 days in. It goes without saying that I miss home, Sara, and all our critters. Anyone who knows me knows I love a good routine. It is wonderful that everything here, including the daily routine, is familiar —my apartment, getting around, shopping and helping out at BCWR. I am usually at the rescue 9-10:30 and then I start my workday at 1pm. It does stretch into the evening but I am so grateful for this opportunity I am in no way complaining.
In the past, I have always cleaned just one area of the rescue called Kitty Cottage. The cats there are in a stable condition, but not quite ready to be adopted. This week, I have cleaned in ICU and also in the sanctuary lounge, as well as KC. The number of cases, the severity of the cases, the crazy situations from whence they come, and the endless need for rescue is absolutely overwhelming.
Yesterday some volunteers took me to Harewood House, which is a grand country estate home owned by a family who are cousins of the late Queen. We had lunch in a nice cafe, a beautiful walk around the grounds and toured the home. For my literary friends, there was a collection of Jane Austen memorabilia, which was also interesting.
I will keep it short today. Enjoy pictures below.
