Tuesday I returned to volunteering at the rescue in the mornings and sadly had to also return to my paying job. I am grateful to be able to work remotely and keep my regular US work hours though. Otherwise, I couldn’t do a trip like this.

Thursday, I decided to take the day off from work and go to York, one of my favorite cities. For several years, I have wanted to go to the Yorkshire museum in York and planned this trip with that purpose in mind.

As a collector of native American artifacts that I have found on our farm in Georgia, I am fascinated with archaeology. The museum did not disappoint with its dinosaur fossils and metal hoards left by long ago Norsemen. Standing and looking at an 8 meter long swimming dinosaur that lived 200 million years ago is astounding.

The hoard of metal objects is from around 50 AD. I always think of the person that held those things. Did they ever dream that someone like myself would be standing and looking at their tools in a museum? Highly unlikely!

After the museum I ventured into York and found a historic pub to have a proper pint with fish and chips. After a bit of shopping I caught the train back to my apartment and cooked dinner. I ordered meats from a butcher this trip and it has proven to be a good decision! More on that later.
