Tuesday I returned to volunteering at the rescue in the mornings and sadly had to also return to my paying job. I am grateful to be able to work remotely and keep my regular US work hours though. Otherwise, I couldn’t do a trip like this.

Thursday, I decided to take the day off from work and go to York, one of my favorite cities. For several years, I have wanted to go to the Yorkshire museum in York and planned this trip with that purpose in mind.

As a collector of native American artifacts that I have found on our farm in Georgia, I am fascinated with archaeology. The museum did not disappoint with its dinosaur fossils and metal hoards left by long ago Norsemen. Standing and looking at an 8 meter long swimming dinosaur that lived 200 million years ago is astounding.

The hoard of metal objects is from around 50 AD. I always think of the person that held those things. Did they ever dream that someone like myself would be standing and looking at their tools in a museum? Highly unlikely!

After the museum I ventured into York and found a historic pub to have a proper pint with fish and chips. After a bit of shopping I caught the train back to my apartment and cooked dinner. I ordered meats from a butcher this trip and it has proven to be a good decision! More on that later.

  2. Hi Melanie, when I try responding on your ‘board’, it doesn’t go through; however, me being the tech dummy I am, that’s not a surprise.  I wanted you to know I am able to see and read your day-to-day log of your visit to England and your very neat Letter of Recognition.  What a special honor. I have to ask you what exactly is the ailment the sweet black cat has? Be safe traveling home, and thanks for including me in your report and pictures. Yes, Sara is truly a blessing, but you’d do the same for her. You are both very special, animal loving ladies!
